Backyard Courts

What size of court should I put in my backyard?

Size is a personal preference but is largely dependant on the overall plan for your backyard. A court can be designed to meet your needs, particular sport, activity level, and budget. That being said, the #1 complaint we have received over the years has been “I wish I would have made my court bigger!”

Check out our Customer Guide for more info on court sizes.

How much does a backyard court cost?

First off, we aren't hiding this info. BUT, every court is different and about 55-60% of the cost is in the construction (site prep, concrete, retaining walls, etc.) And that price can't be determined without a site visit and real plan.

There is no “one-size-fits-all” or "package" price. The size of the court, components, accessories, and the amount of site work needed are a few examples of variables that can affect price.

We have a very good outline of budget ranges in our Customer Guide.

But to get YOUR court price, we should start with phone call and a site visit to get a handle on all of the variables involved.

How long does it take to install a court?

The average backyard court takes about 3-4 days to prep (depending on size) and 1-3 days to install the surface, components, and complete the line painting.

Who does the work?

We have long-time court builders in-house who will handle the planning and design.

The installation is done by our own, full-time installation team. They show up in a professional manner and treat your property as if it were our own.

For preparation and base-work we use our staff or prequalified subcontractors who perform to our strict standards.

Do I need a permit?

Every municipality is different. But it is very common in NE Ohio to be required to obtain a zoning permit and/or a building permit.
We suggest your first call is to your city, township or village and ask them what the requirements are to pour a concrete pad in your backyard for a Sport Court.

How big is a tennis court?

An official size tennis court is 60′ x 120′. Which can be adjusted down to 50′ x 100′ for backyards, which does not affect play within the lines. The lines for a doubles court (the inbound/play area,) measure 36'x78'

Who paints the lines on the court?

The lines are painted on the court after the installation is complete. A proprietary primer is used with paint specifically designed to hold up to high traffic areas. Painted lines typically last for many years without needing any retouching.

What is the first step in determining how big my court can be/where we can put it?

Do you know where your property lines are? Most of the time your mortgage docs can help you find them. If not, we recommend getting a basic residential survey can help you determine location and size. Here is a link to local surveyors.

home gymnasiums

My gym is part of a new construction home. Do you work with my home builder?

We do! We have relationships with many of the custom home builders in NE Ohio and understand how the process works.

During the planning phase, we help the builder with all of the variables that they will need to address so we can install the perfect court.

When we come in to install near the end of the project, we have good plan and understanding and working relationship with the project manager, allowing the final install to go smoothly with no surprises.

Can I put a wood floor in my basement gym?

You can...but with some proper expectations and understanding of the risks. Gyms below grade could potentially have water issues which would destroy a wood floor. Climate has to be controlled at all times, too.

In most cases, there is very little to worry about if proper precautions are taken.

We do have other alternatives that are less susceptible to water and we'd be happy to talk with you about all of the options.

I want to have a hoop on the wall the raises and lowers. Can you do that?

Of course. However, wall mounted hoops in residential settings need proper planning and wall structure that can handle the load. We can be a great resource there. But most of our home gyms do utilize a wall mounted basketball system.

What does a wood floor cost?

There are several variables that determine cost. The type of wood floor, the size, the access, etc.
We have a good budget range for you to check out in our Customer Guide.

How much does a Sport Court indoor gym floor cost?

Lots of factors: size, type, game lines, etc. Check out our Customer Guide for more accurate budget ranges.

Why do you call a Sport Court floor "multi-purpose?"

Most sports surfaces have limitations. Wood floors require costly field renovation and maintenance at least annually and can be easily damaged by water. Most synthetic surfaces must be glued down and can delaminate or be affected by groundwater or vapor emission. Sport Court modular surfaces can be used for almost any activity, in almost any type of facility, whether climate-controlled or not. They are durable and resistant to damage, but their modular nature makes repairs simple and quick when necessary. For facilities watching their maintenance budgets, Sport Court provides a safe and playable surface with some of the lowest life-cycle costs in the industry.
